A Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has used unprintable words to describe former President John Mahama on the latter’s claim that President Akufo-Addo directive to the embattled Auditor-General (A-G), Mr. Daniel Yao Domevelo to proceed on leave sets a dangerous precedent for the country.
“It was borne out of ignorance and alcoholic influence. Mahama is restless and desperate politician dancing around issues”, Nana Obiri Boahen said in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
According to the NDC flagbearer, President Akufo-Addo’s treatment of the Auditor General is a reflection of the general politicisation of key state institutions under the NPP administration.
According to Mr. Mahama, “if the president can ask the Auditor General to go on leave, it means he can ask the Chief Justice to go on leave, he can ask the Electoral Commissioner to go on leave, he can ask the CHRAJ Director to go on leave, but these are supposed to be independent institutions”.
Mr Mahama also berated government over the violence that erupted in some registration centres during the just ended voters registration exercise.
“The most ludicrous one that I have heard was the strategy they use, they meet a group of people and they say Bonjour and if you respond Bonjour, then they say you are a Togolese or a Burkinabe but who does not know Bonjour in Ghana?”, he quizzed
Responding to those views on a local radio station in Kumasi, Nana Obiri Boahen, also a private legal practitioner took a swipe at the former President for insulting the intelligence of the former First Gentleman.
“I always repeat Mahama is ignorant, restless, painful and a desperate politician who wants power but has no understanding of appreciating issues”, Nana Obiri Boahen fumed.
