Be innovative – Senior Minister to newly created regions

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo has urged the coordinating councils of the newly created regions to use the bottom-up approach to ensure that their regions receive the transformation they yearn for.

“It is important for us to think of the development of these new regions bottom up, don’t wait for Accra to think for Bono East or Ahafo. You should have committees looking at your own development and bringing out papers to the center so we make sure that such papers reflect in the budget. You shouldn’t expect the Minister of Finance to imagine what you want done. I can assure you that if we take these regions on their own strides and think from the bottom up, in the next ten to fifteen years they will be leading in development in this country.”

He made the observation at a symposium organized as part of the 60th Anniversary of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo who was addressing officials of the Bono East and Ahafo regions said that if the newly created regions want to develop quickly then their leaders must be innovative and adopt the bottom-up approach to development and not rely solely on the Central government for its developmental projects.

Newly created Regions

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, gave legal backing to the creation of six new regions in the country.

The exercise was undertaken through the public presentation of Constitutional Instruments backing the creation of the regions.

This came after residents within the catchment areas of the proposed new regions voted to give an overwhelming endorsement for their creation in a referendum in December 2018.
