The request comes at a time government is renaming some
major tertiary institutions in the country after some profound individuals. The
move, critics say is an attempt by the President to unduly honour personalities
inclined to the tradition of the governing New Patriotic Party.

It has emerged that a petition was sent by the Paramount
Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area to the President to rename the Bawku Senior
High School in order to distinguish it from the Bawku Senior High Technical
School also located in Bawku.

In an address read on his behalf during the visit of the
President to Bawku as part of a two day working visit to the Upper East Region,
Naaba Abugrago said the renaming of the school will resolve recurrent mix ups
in the allocation of resources to the school which often occure as a result of
the similarity in the names of the two major second cycle institutions in the
Bawku Municipality.

“Your Excellency, some of the key important issues
pending include our petition on the renaming of Bawku Senior High School to avoid
the confusion with Bawku Senior High Technical School which resource
allocations are often a mix up. The officials responsible can throw more light
in this regard when the need is required”.

Though it is not exactly clear what name has been proposed to government, information available to suggest the school may be renamed Azoka Senior High School, a name the school first bore when it was established.
