Ten confirmed dead in fatal accident at Ekumfi-Dunkwa

Ekumfi-Dunkwa (C/R), March 23, GNA – Nine
people died on the spot and one other later at the hospital in a fatal road
accident, which occurred on Friday at 1121hours at Ekumfi-Dunkwa in the Central
Region along the Mankessim-Accra stretch of the highway.

Eye witnesses told the Ghana News Agency that
a Metro-Mass Transit Bus, with registration number AS 2951-10, heading to Diaso
from Accra, clashed head-on with a Yutong Bus with registration number GN
4368-14, which was heading to Accra from Takoradi.

According to eyewitnesses, the Yutong Bus, in
an attempt to overtake an Urvan mini bus, with registration number GW 9699-18,
veered off its lane and run into the MMT Bus on the opposite direction.

The bodies have been deposited at the Saltpond
Government Hospital, while 28 of the injured are receiving treatment at the
Apam Hospital, the Winneba Trauma Centre, and Mercy Women’s Hospital at
Mankessim.

The police and personnel of the Ghana National
Fire Service arrived shortly the after the accident, who helped to ensure the
flow of traffic, which had become heavy.

The police have confirmed the accident.
