Accra, Nov 12, GNA – The new look of
the Accra Sports Stadium’s media stands has received commendations by many of
those who will be using it, even though, there have been some serious concerns
about the facility.

The new media stands looks much
standardised this time with swivel chairs and cubicles, and proper electrical
installations to help ease the work of the media personalities who would be
using the facility.

However, the new media stands as well
as the entire stadium facility having gone under renovations for the hosting of
the African Women’s Cup of Nations, (AWCON) was put to test on Sunday, November
11, in a friendly match between the Black Queens of Ghana and the Bayana Bayana
of South Africa.

But in the course of the game, one
thing that was palpable was how the media personnel seemed uncomfortable using
the new facility.

Almost all the journalist watched the
game standing in front of their respective cubicles instead of sitting in their
chairs.

In an interview with the GNA Sports,
some of the journalist shared their concerns and called for some changes to be
done on the facility.

Mr. Saddick Adams, Spots Journalist
with Atinka FM said; “we have seen a clear facelift but there is challenge with
the cubicles. It is not advisable to use cubicles in the media stands, because
apart from watching the game on the pitch the media is suppose to have a clear
view of the entire stadium in terms of reporting and catching other exciting
moments in the crowd.

“Its better these are removed
before the start of the tournament because I have traveled to see other stadia
and the media stands should always be clear of the entire view of the stadium.

“But apart from that it looks
fantastic with all the new chairs and the electrical gadgets that have been
fitted in place,” he added.

Mr. Ekow Asmah, a sports pundit with
Asempa FM noted that: “this is beautiful to say the least and I like the new
look with all the new installations. I must say we should commend everyone
involved in this work. But I think as you saw, there is a challenge watching
from here, so you saw all of us standing. And I think they look to at
that”.

Miss Matilda Dimedo of Zylofon FM also
added that; “I think it’s so nice and at least when you come to the stadium it
gives you the opportunity to work properly with the new electrical system here.

“But the cubicles are too tall and
needs to come down because if you are sitting you can’t really see the field,”
she added.

Mr. Sheikh Tophic Sienu of 442gh.com
said that; “I think its not just beautiful but overly impressive.  When I walked in here and I saw the media
stands, I remembered what I saw at the Yokohama stadium when I went to Japan
last year. And you realise that the electrification system is apt.

“I complained to the media liaison
of the tournament. It is true that when you sit, the glass erected as cubicles
blocks your view and you need to stand up before you can watch the game.

“That is how we all watched the
game. So it could be good if they could probably remove the white glass on top
and leave the blue aspect for the media.”
